Elaine Landro, Board President Term expires November, 2014
I have lived in Discovery Bay with my husband and two children since 1998. I have been a member of the Byron Union School District Board of Trustees since 2009 and currently serve as its President.I have exhibited my commitment to the children of Discovery Bay and Byron through my many years of volunteerism as PTA President, classroom parent, member of the Measure C Bond Citizens Oversight Committee, SEED Foundation Vice-President, and as a member of the Discovery Bay Elementary School Site Council.I consider it to be the role of this Board to guide our community’s educational future through the formulation of goals, establishment of structure, continuous assessment of all conditions affecting education, and to serve as advocates on behalf of all students. I believe that there is a common core of knowledge and skills which every child should command. These goals are not one dimensional and must address all aspects of a child in order to develop well-rounded citizens. An educated and informed citizenry is essential to the welfare of our community. I am extremely proud of this School District. Our schools’ API scores continue to improve in spite of the extreme budget cuts we have endured and will likely continue to endure. This District employs an excellent and dedicated staff devoted to quality instruction and our students. I will continue to work for our children while students in our schools and to what they can become in the future.

I have lived in the area for over 10 years and have a degree in sociology from Biola University. My community involvement includes Secretary on the Committee for Measure C, past President of the MOMS Club of Discovery Bay, Vacation Bible School staff volunteer, Brownie Girl Scout Leader, active member of PTA and SEED Foundation and a regular classroom volunteer. The BUSD is entering a new era with unprecedented student growth both in population number and academic success, posting a dramatic increase in STAR testing results this previous year, with potential for success with the new construction and improvement projects made possible by the bond, the installation of a School Safety Officer, and dedicated staff who are poised to continue the progressive work forward. The projects of Measure C are near and dear to my heart and further, I feel personally responsible to the community as I worked for this bond and put my name on it, to ensure its value with met expectations. Now is the time for BUSD to move into the future, taking from lessons learned of past district dilemmas and leaving behind divisive conflict. I have always valued the public education system established in this country, the right of every child regardless of gender, race, social status, or economic position to have an education. I believe it is our responsibility to ensure this is carried out with quality programs and standards in each of our public schools. I will work for my child … I will work for yours.
