The Byron Union School District is comprised of Byron and the Town of Discovery Bay, located in far eastern Contra Costa County. Our two elementary schools are in Discovery Bay and our middle school is in Byron.
The town of Byron was founded in 1878 due to the needs of the railroad companies, and has developed into a beautiful small town. The community is known for its agricultural importance and local residents reap the benefits of locally grown fruits and vegetables which are also served in the finest Bay Area restaurants. The growing vinticulture business contributes to local wineries.
Byron also boasts an airport, home to private pilots, glider enthusiasts, and a popular sky diving center.
Discovery Bay is based on a waterfront community of 3,500+ homes with private docks with access to the entire California Delta, Bays and Oceans. The people of Discovery Bay enjoy watersports of all kinds and golf at the local country club. Discovery Bay has grown over the past several years and has added Discovery Bay West, which features gated and non-gated "off-water" communities. Residents of Discovery Bay are highly active in seasonal sports and strongly support youth soccer, baseball, and basketball leagues.
Put succinctly by a local resident, "It still amazes me that it is so affordable out here and how much the community pulls together for events, residents in need, etc. We have low crime rates, good education, fantastic weather, and there’s always something fun to do."
