Our Special Education service delivery model is based upon current best practices. Our department and sites provide a continuum of services for students outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (’04).

We make every effort to serve our special education student population in the Least Restrictive Environment. We pride ourselves in our responsiveness to our students of special need and our relationships with their families. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us.

Finally, included in or website, under the GATE program in the Parent Resources page, you will find a section describing the Byron Union School District Response to Intervention (RTI) model. This is an intervention model for all students, including gifted students, students of special need, and other at-risk populations.

Response to Intervention

The School Based Response to Intervention (RTI) teams are designed to support the learning of all students in our community. The intervention process is based upon powerful teaching and learning, including formative assessment, that will drive our instructional practices in all classrooms.

The RTI process is based upon early intervention and the implementation of scientifically based interventions. Every Byron Teacher in grades K-6 collects comprehensive student assessment data. The teacher then shares their student information with a site-level team, made up of expert and mentor staff. Together the team designs interventions for at risk students, and challenging classroom experiences for the gifted population.

The RTI process will also address the needs of students and families that may be in a state of crisis or special need. The District and staff are committed to supporting and meeting the needs of all students. Please contact us if we can be of assistance or have any questions.

The RTI Action Plan is based upon a very detailed implementation and will be in the process of ongoing refinement over the next three to five years.

Our Kids, Our Schools, Our Community.  We go hand in hand.
